As part of the EU project GEOPRO:
'Integrating Geochemical and Mineralogical Techniques: A new approach to raw materials and archaeological ceramic provenance' http://www.shef.ac.uk/uni/academic/A-C/ap/research/geopro.html
a Post Doctoral Position (Young Visiting Researcher) is available to work on Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) of pottery. NAA and statistical cluster analysis is routinely done by our group in Bonn and will be refined and applied to samples of the project ( Late Bronze Age pottery and raw materials from Crete, Roman pottery from Sicily and the Baleares).
According to EU rules the position is open to non-german EU (and associated states) citizens under 35 years of age. Salary will be according to German BATIIa rules in the range of 5000 - 6500 DM/month depending on age and status.
Recent PhD graduates (natural scientists, archaeologists) interested in Archaeology, Nuclear Chemistry and/or cluster analysis should apply to Prof. Dr. H. Mommsen.

Unsere Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigt sich mit drei Forschungsfeldern der Archäometrie, in denen in Zusammenarbeit mit Archäologen und Vor- und Frügeschichtlern Diplomarbeiten durchzuführen sind:

Thema 1: Neutronenaktivierungsanalyse (NAA) an Keramik

Thema 2: Röntgenfluoreszenzanalysen induziert durch Synchrotronstrahlung (SYXRF) zur Untersuchung kulturhistorischer Objekte (Metalle, Glas, Malfarben u. a.)

Thema 3: Archäometrische Prospektion (Satellitenbilder, Geomagnetik) zur Suche und Kartierung von archäologischen Fundstellen (digitale Bildverarbeitungsmethoden, Mustererkennung, Auswertung von geomagnetischen Daten), in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Doktoranden
